The Discovery Center
Angie Traverse Memorial Scholarships
Angie Traverse was a wonderful mother, an adoring wife, and a great
friend to many. Her creativity, courage, and caring nature
strongly touched the lives of nearly all who crossed her path.
For years to come, her artwork at the Discovery Center will
continue to help identify this wonderful place that has touched the
lives of so many young people.
In December of 2000, Angie was surprisingly diagnosed with a terminal
case of non-smoker's lung cancer. She bravely battled her illness
for more than four years. There was not one time when she ever
allowed her illness to define the woman she was. She constantly
looked out for the well-being of others, even during her greatest times
of need. The only fear she faced was that of leaving what she
loved so deeply.
What she loved is what will continue to define the woman she was.
Her children carry a sense of great compassion for others.
Her husband emanates her courage. Her artwork will
immortally enshrine her creativity. Her friends laugh when they
remember her uniquely wry humor.
Any college-bound student at a Broome County, NY high school who
possesses these "Angie-like" qualities is eligible for these
scholarships. Five one-time awards of $2000 each will be awarded.
